Jane Chapin

Biography
Jane Chapin grew up in rural Pennsylvania, excelling at drawing and painting at a young age and helped put herself through college by drawing portraits. She attended art school, graduating with a degree in Art Education, then taking her skills to the Peace Corps in El Salvador before pursuing an art teaching career in the US.
Chapin made the decision to pursue her painting education by studying independently with mentors such as Richard Schmid, John Budicin, Kim English, Kenn Backhaus, Kevin MacPherson and Calvin Liang, eventually leaving teaching to paint professionally full time. Her work became nationally recognized through juried shows and galleries throughout the country, as well as private and university collections. Her professional career also includes teaching workshops and serving as juror and speaker for art events. It encompasses figurative, landscape and plein air painting, which she sees as an essential part of her ongoing development as a painter. In 2010, Chapin published the first of two “Land of the Free” books, using her paintings of the 50 states to tell the personal stories of wounded and fallen US military and raising funds for veterans and their surviving families.
