Katherine L. Meade
Born and raised in Southern California, national award winning artist Katherine Meade has had a love for art: drawing, painting and creating, since childhood. Katherine deeply admires nature and the physical world around us. This love of nature and a need to learn more about it lead her to earn a degree in Botany from the University of California. Being very artistic, Katherine used her skills as a means to help pay for her education. Upon completion of her degree, she was able to use her passion for science and nature while working as an Analytical Chemist with the U.S. Forest Service. In that position, she studied forest health alongside dedicated scientists from around the globe, while continuing to hone her artistic talents.
After moving from Southern California to the Midwest in the early 1990’s, she began to work full time as an artist rather than a chemist. Her first show earned enough to launch her art career and when her first entry in the Indiana State Fair won Wildlife Best of Show, and The Governors Choice award, she knew she was on the right path. She discovered that her scientific training in observation, objectivity, problem solving, the study of light and morphology lent itself well in her studies as a painter. She brings a strong love of nature and science to her art that she is eager to share with others.
